For my internship project, my first idea was to make a financial portfolio for my mom's finances. However the other day my mentor gave me a task to to complete a tax return for a S-Corporation return. The skills I will need to complete this task is the ability to input the correct numbers into its correct category. However I am going to need support for this return because it will be my first experience handling this type of information. My support for this project will include the help of my mentor and his colleague. I will need them to make sure I put the information into its correct position in the return and to double check and make sure that I did not misplace anything in the return.
During my time in my internship I do believe that I have self-advocated myself during my time there by asking questions about topics I did and did not know. I also ask for help if I am doing thing I am unsure about that pertains to an assignment that I am given. As for following the advice about how to be remembered at my internship, I have been able to know my mentor and the task he does, and all the other colleagues in the office with their names and task they perform for their business. I have been dressing up to the best of my ability to look professional around the office. As always I am either early to internship or I am either on time or early but never late. However it has been hard for me to be doing something at my internship because most of the time my mentor and I will go through all the work for the day in the matter or hours and then wait for something to pop up and can finish it.
From my internship experience so far I believe that it has grown my interest into this field of study. Throughout my internship I have seen my mentor do many tasks that deal with the the field of study that I would like to pursue, accounting. If anything this internship broadened my perspective in the field of study I am most likely yo pursue in college and as a career. This experience so far has shown me that if I can stay organized in anything I do and be good at what I am doing, I can do anything to achieve my own goals for either college admissions, life as a college student, having a job, having a career, and in life in general. For my own personal preparation with this type of action I practice it during the internship and at home.
For my internship project I will be creating a mock Individual Retirement Account for someone that I know. When I create this project I believe that some skills that I will need will be; Cooperation, Fast Learning, Comprehension, Computer Skills, and Problem Solving. For this project a couple things that I may need is being able to have someone's finances and being able to use those to make an IRA and I think I am going to use my mothers account information because her job I think provides a retirement fund for her(I am not sure). Another possible aid for my project is having the help from my mentor, so he can guide me through on how these accounts work, how to modify them, the benefits of the account, and other information about the account and how it is set up. Other then those two things I don't think that I will need anything else to help me with my project.
For my internship, I currently do not have any questions about it so far. The connections between my school and my internship are very vague, both of them do not share many common interest but there is one: Communication. In the office where I am working at, my mentor and other business associates are always talking to each other about clients and their needs/requests. So far most information/events that I have obtained/viewed is confidential and I am not allowed to tell the public. I am interning at a business and not an organization, so my internship is mostly about learning what they do and why they do it. As I am working through my internship I am developing the skill of talking/getting to know new people around the office. I think it has benefited me in ways that I am able to understand their background and find similarity's between me and the person I am talking to. As for my commute to my internship, I walk for about 15 minutes and reach my destination. I am able to walk to my internship so easily is that my internship is only about 1 mile away from where I live so its easy to get to and from work. When I walk to my work, I find fun because I able for about 15 minutes to clear my mind and bring in positive thoughts about what I am hoping to do that day for work.
When I first arrived to my internship I didn't know where to go because where my internship is located. there are other building surrounding it. However it may have taken me 5 minutes but I was able to find it. Once I went inside their receptionist showed me where my mentor was going to work with me. The one thing that particularly strikes me about my internship is how open the building is. They keep both doors open during the day, they have their own kitchen set up with anything you could image. Finally all the rooms are a decent size and a comfortable work environment.
When I arrived I was greeted by their receptionist and then was walked over to my mentors office. Inside the room was my mentor. I open the door and I was greeted by him and I closed the door behind me. After our greeting he showed me where I will be seating. Once I sat down on the chair he asked me a couple of basic get to know you questions I replied and some some of the same questions back. After we meet the thing that strike me about him is that he has a passive vibe to him. What mean by passive vibe is that he stays cool and just jumps right into work. Overall the one thing that I enjoy about my work and work environment is that everything gets done on time. When I am with my mentor, he goes through his work and he shows me information about what he is doing and why he is doing them. I am really excited about learning what accountants do day to day and and how they get financial problems solved either with taxes, billing records, and various things like that. I am personally not worried about anything at this moment because after my first day I really enjoyed learning with my mentor and the other people working with him too. I'm going to a financial firm called Koala Financial. My mentors name is Alex Wymore. I do not know what I will be doing on my internship. I am excited about learning what CPA and accounts do for work. I am also excited to learn what is like to be a CPA/account, while also learning what I need to know to strive in this business. I am nervous about what I might learn and if i'm interested in a business that I may want to go in as a career |
