For the next time I do a writing piece I would like to make the story more descriptive because in my writing piece I was not as descriptive I could have been. That is one thing I would like improve on for my writing on future pieces. For this writing piece I wish I would have known better about how to write dialog for the characters speech. I wish I would have known this before I started writing this piece because it would have given my story a greater understanding of the characters.
For the Sci-Fi project, our class wrote short science fiction stories that would be compiled into a single book called "Pandora's Book". We began by writing seed texts or potential premises for our stories and eventually we moved on to filling individual items such as logical leaps, big idea and world building graphic organizers. Below will be my beginning premises for my story: This next picture will be an example of a seed text for our stories: For our project we had many informational pieces that we needed to complete in order to make our stories seem like a possible event in our future. we had to fill out several papers they are Big Idea Graphic Organizer you can view mine here. We created a World Building Organizer. This was our background information about our stories. Next was a assignment to fill out information about our stories World/place our characters live. You can view mine here. Next I will be showing you a pictures of a made up Facebook profile for my main character: After we finished our Facebook profiles we needed to do research for our Sci Fi topic. We created a research document to back up all of information that was going to go in our stories. You can view mine here. After our research document we had to finish our story plan by finishing a Logical Leaps assignment, this made sure that all the science was relate-able to the readers. You can view mine here. For our last piece of writing before our final draft we had to create a Down Draft. This is basically a write up of your story that will be edited by me and my peers. Unfortunately I do not have a document to has my down draft because I edited it until it was my final draft. Finally after all of the edits by myself and others we had a Final Draft of our stories. This took a long time to appear because in my own case, I had a lot of edits that needed to be made to my down draft to become my Final Draft. You can view mine here.
In my drafts both down and final drafts, I had decided what I wanted to write and I stuck with it throughout the drafts. I wanted to write about an Artificial Intelligence that has the power to help organizations cripple the world. That idea stuck through my drafts. The best part about writing my story was creating the story of my characters as the story was developing. However the toughest part of making my story was trying to find the right background information about the topic I chose to write about. From my down draft to my final draft there was a difference in the grammar from the drafts. I personally am not well with punctuation with quotations. So my down draft and final draft are different in the aspect of punctuation and not with the content, the content stayed the same. From this project I take away that if I put in a lot of work into the work that I am suppose to do it will turn out great. "The Book of Us" was a project made by a High Tech HIgh Chula Vista team called RUN DMC. This project was about how a group of students can come together and gather each others own personal stories and show them to the world by publishing a book called "The Book of Us". If you would like more information click on the link here When we first started our project we had think of a topic to write about. We were given a worksheet that made us think about our topic in 6 different ways. Within these 6 themes you must have 3 different ideas about the 6 topics. We learned these 6 themes through a "Field Guide". In the picture below I will show you my topic and my 3 ideas for each of the 6 themes, I am sorry for my legibility, I am a sloppy writer: As we were in the process of picking our topics, we would have little quick writes to get our juices flowing for our writing pieces. We wrote about the topics above into these free writes. We would have written 1 of 3 topics about the main topic. The picture below has 2 example of these quick writes. Another way our teacher (Dr. P) preppred us for our writing was by finding mentor text for us to read. They ranged from Magicians to Teenage Drinking. The reason why he showed us these texts was to show us what each wriing style looked like. This then helped students and I figure out what type of writing piece we would like to write. Soon after reading these texts Dr.P gave us more mentor text but this time on our topic of chioce, which was the main idea for our writing piece. Once we read the article(s) we were given a graphic organizer to fill out and get a better understanding of the type of writing style we chose. If you would like to see my graphic organizer click here For my writing piece I decide to write about FIFA 15 and how the game works along with its games modes and other things. I also included a comparison in my writing piece. The style of writing I chose was to Inform and Explain. As I wrote my piece we had to go through many critiques and if you would like to se my first draft or down draft see it here, after all my revisions I finally came down with a final draft and you can see it here As we were preparing for our exhibition, our photographers took pictures of us and within the picture it contains our golden line from our text. When we firs started to do this project I had originally wanted to talk about FIFA Ultimate Team and how it functions. As I was writing my piece I along with my teacher decided that it would be better to write about the game in general because what I had wanted to write would have been focused too much on the people that already played FIFA Ultimate team. Since I changed the way I was going to write the crtiiques on my paper were severe because the flow was not a smooth as water running down the stream, it was more like a wave crashing down on the shores of a beach. There were many ways I changed my draft from start to finish, their was major formatting changes, content changes, and most of all grammar issues. But as the weeks passed I was able to recover and fix all of these problems to make my wave like writing piece into a smooth stream of writing. If I could do one thing over and over again that I did in this project was researching my favorite game and learning the details for that game while also comparing it to its fierce competitors. I could change one thing about my piece, I would not change anything because in my belief i think that it is perfect to inform anyone about FIFA 15 and what that game consist of. This was project about how different historical figures come together to discuss our recent State of The Union Address. Another thing for this project was that we were put into pairs of 2 to research our figures. For this project we had to make an opening statement and here is mine; Hello My name is Benjamin Franklin, I am a proud founding father of the United States of America, I am the person that helped understand more of electricity. I also drafted the declaration of independence. I am a foreign ambassador. According to the state of the union address I do believe that the union is strong, because we are advancing in our sciences by creating new forms of electricity via wind power solar power nuclear energy and coal. Another reason why I believe our union is strong is because we have had much improvement on our new inventions. I would also like to say that from what Mr. Obama said “That’s how America leads-not with bluster, but with persistent, steady resolve” that we as country were founded by fighting but I do think that it is good not go into war and try to make non-conflict resolutions with countries that are in war or in global politics. For this project I really enjoyed doing this, I would say that a moment that sums up this project was when I delivered my opening statement. I think this because we had put a great amount of time time researching our characters and the opening statement to me was all the research put together. For this project the way I contributed to this was by doing some research on my figure and I also helped create our opening statement. A moment that I was proud of during the project was when I delivered our opening statement and also answering some question during the exhibition. Finally a lesson I learned from this project was that I should have my worked pier reviewed if possible because I ended up finding a lot of mistakes in my opening statement.
For this project we were put into groups of 3-4 people. What we did for this project was that we had to create a verbatim play. What is a verbatim play? It is a play that people create from sources of information. We had to interview a person for our play. Once we did the interview we had to make a interview map then we transcribed it. Once we transcribed it, we then had to make a script. Our final script is here. For our play we had to create a interview map. What is a interview map? It is a graphic organizer for our interview. For example, lets say our interviewee told us a very interesting story around the 10 minute mark. When we get this information, we put it in our interview map to tell us that around the 10th minute there was a interesting story. It also helps us with our transcribing.
As the project developed, we had to individually had to create a script for our group to see. In order for me to create my script I had to review the entire interview and choose which story's I wanted to include in our play. As I finished my script, my group members had finished their's too. Once we finished our scripts we then collaborated which parts of our scripts we wanted to put into our final script. Once we decided which parts we wanted in our script, we then revised the script and did our best to make it the best. I think that a moment that summed up our project was when we finalized our script. For the project I contributed to the interview, transcribing, and making the script. For the interview I helped by creating some pre-interview questions and then asking some questions during the interview. I had transcribed the interview with my group and I had to transcribe 15 minutes of the interview. I did transcribe most of it but I did need some help from my group member. The last thing I did to help my group was by helping them create the script while also giving them ideas about the script. I also revised our script. My proud moment of this project was when we had finished our script because it had taken us days of revision to get it ready for the play. A lesson that I learned for this project was to not let the work pile up because for this project it took a day of making up in order to keep up with my group. It was a lesson well learned. |
